Digital citizenship is the responsible use of technology. Treating the digital world the same way a responsible person would treat the physical world. Understanding that there are risks associated with digital technology and developing the skills necessary to be a good steward in a world of unlimited information and safely and legally mitigate risks that may arise in a responsible manner.

9 Elements of Digital Citizenship

Digital access - Digital access is simply the accessibility of all people to the digital world. Digital access should be available to all to create equal opportunities.

Digital commerce - transactions of trade for goods and services online.

Digital communication -communication using electronic tools such as email, instant messaging, online bulletin boards, and blogs.

Digital literacy - the ability to comprehend and operate digital platforms and tools.

Digital etiquette - is as simple as knowing the difference between right and wrong in regards to conduct online.

Digital law - what you can and cannot do online. A person is accountable for upholding the law in the digital world just like in the physical world.

Digital rights & responsibilities - having the ability to access all types of digital technology but also being responsible for your actions while using digital technology.

Digital health & wellness - the effects of the relationship with technology on a person’s health and wellness. This can include in the workplace and in personal lives.

Digital security - the knowledge and use of tools to protect yourself and your digital assets. Using tools to protect your computer from viruses, phishing, and SPAM to name a few.
