Fish out of water

Have you ever thought about this phrase? I mean really thought about what it means to be a fish out of water? While I know that most don't look at the reality of little phrases like this I often wonder if when we say "I feel like a fish out of water" do we really mean that we are snatched from our environment in which we thrive to be slowly suffocating unless someone comes along and throws us back in? Thats a bit dramatic don't ya think? Anyhow that was quite a rabbit trail to get to this thought: I feel like a fish out of water, but only a fish whose body is out of water but his gills are still underwater and he can breathe and is only slightly uncomfortable. I have been teaching for over 10 years now and worked as a critical care nurse and paramedic before that. I have been in some uncomfortable positions but in a sense I was still in my "comfort zone". However, starting graduate school last semester at Athens State University has made me quite uncomfortable and has pushed my outside of my comfort zone! Moving into this semester I though it would be interesting to blog as an educator who thought he had the world of technology figured out only to be required to create a website for his class. I usually can point and click until I figure things out and thank goodness for good direction from Dr. Cowan. I hope to go "above and beyond" but right now I am pretty stoked that I was able to learn how to create pages for the website. I plan to blog about interesting technology as I come across it and continue to chronicle my journey through graduate school this semester! Hopefully I can get back in the water and start swimming upstream!
